PixMold UI Crafter for Aseprite
A downloadable Aseprite extension
Launch beta price: $4.99 · Version 0.9.3 beta · First public release
The price will increase as PixMold receives more documentation, examples, starter packs, and workflow polish.
What is PixMold?
Create editable pixel-art UI components inside Aseprite, then preview and export them as spritesheets
PixMold is an
Aseprite extension for creating, previewing, managing, and rendering reusable
pixel-art UI components.

Build buttons, panels, slots, frames, title plates, switches, controls, materials, state variations, preview layouts, and sprite-sheet-ready UI outputs directly inside Aseprite.

PixMold is designed for fast UI experimentation: create a component, keep it editable, test states and colors, preview it in context, and render it again when your design changes.
What you get
- PixMold UI Crafter as an installable
.aseprite-extensionfile; - editable starter projects for flat UI, simple UI, sci-fi UI, textured UI, and material examples;
- project save/load, templates, color themes, previews, and render tools;
- access to documentation and beta updates.
What PixMold is for
Pixel-art UI can take a lot of time to iterate on. A single button may need several states. A panel may need borders, bevels, shadows, materials, 9-slice behavior, color variations, and export-ready alignment.
PixMold helps you build those UI parts as editable projects instead of disposable sprites.
It is not meant to replace hand drawing or final art direction. It is a construction and experimentation tool: useful for placeholders, UI exploration, reusable components, material tests, color themes, and production drafts that can be refined later.
Included starter packs

PixMold includes editable starter packs and material examples to help you explore different workflows.
These are not fixed final art packs. They are examples and starting points that you can inspect, modify, recolor, reshape, and use as a base for your own UI.
Included examples cover:
- simple beveled UI components;
- flat boilerplate UI elements;
- sci-fi style panels and controls;
- textured materials;
- buttons and state-based widgets;
- slots, frames, panels, and preview layouts.
Main features
PixMold combines a managed project workflow with layered pixel-art UI generation, so you can experiment with interface components without rebuilding every variation from scratch.
- Managed PixMold project workflow
- Create elements, states, folders, layers, and effect stacks
- Create buttons, panels, slots, frames, switches, and reusable UI parts
- Border, bevel, gradient, shadow, luminosity, perspective, and shape effects
- Filled and outline shapes
- Noise effects to create wood, stone, dirt, cloudy surfaces, and texture variation
- Mask and source-layer workflows
- Channeled effect system to limit the effects to the desired layer or group of layers
- Preview layouts for testing UI in context
- 9-slice, 3-slice, grid, texture, header, and composed preview items
- Color themes, named colors, and color variations
- Custom color picker with palette scheme helpers
- Layer style presets, noise presets, element templates, and project resources
- Render to active layer, new layer, new sprite, or sprite-sheet-style output
- Optional Aseprite slice generation
- Included starter packs and editable examples
This list gives a broad overview, but PixMold is easier to understand by seeing the workflow in context: creating a project, editing an element, adding states, previewing variations, and rendering the result.
Why I made it
PixMold started from a practical problem while working on my own indie game.
I like Aseprite because it is light, direct, and focused, but UI iteration was taking too much time. I wanted a way to quickly test pixel-art UI ideas without relying on random placeholders or rebuilding every variation by hand.
The goal of PixMold is to keep UI components editable: buttons, panels, states, colors, effects, previews, and exports can stay together in a managed project, so early placeholders can become something you refine instead of throw away.
Current beta status
PixMold is currently released as a beta.
The core workflow is usable, but documentation, examples, and workflow polish are still being improved. Some
advanced
workflows may change during the 0.9.x releases.
Current beta notes:
- very large elements or complex effect stacks can be slower;
- some advanced source-layer workflows are still being polished;
- the built-in text effect is mainly for quick placeholder text;
- documentation is still expanding;
- some effect combinations may need extra testing on unusual shapes;
- feedback and bug reports are welcome.
Version 0.9.3 is the first public beta release. Earlier 0.9.x versions were
internal
development builds.
Requirements
- Aseprite
1.3or newer is required. - PixMold uses Aseprite extension scripting and dialog canvas features.
- Tested on macOS and Windows.
- An RGB or indexed-color sprite is recommended for normal drawing and export workflows.
